One of the main parts of planning your wedding is going to be ensuring that you have the entertainment sorted. As much as your wedding day is your big day, it is also an event which is attended by your guests, and you want to make sure that everyone is happy – both them and you. One of the ways to be sure of that is to look into finding good entertainment for the evening, and that should be a lot easier than you might think. Nonetheless, it is one of the first things that you will want to arrange, just in case your chosen entertainment should get booked up too early.
There are a lot of kinds of entertainment you might be considering for your wedding, and you might even go with several for the same event. But one which is particularly popular, and which you might well be thinking about, is the possibility of hiring a DJ. Having a DJ at your wedding is a great way to ensure that everyone gets dancing just when you want them to, and that everyone has a great night.
But how can you make sure that you find the best Wedding DJ in your area? And what’s the process of actually finding one? Let’s take a look.

Before you start approaching DJs and trying to arrange something, you need to first make sure that you have organised the essentials. There are many of these to think about, but you need to think specifically about those which are likely to be important to the DJ themselves. If you don’t yet have a fixed date, for example, then they are not going to be able to know whether they can make it to your wedding at all or not. So make sure that you have organised that, as well as the venue, otherwise your chosen DJs won’t know if they can be a part of your special day.
One of the first things you will want to do when trying to find a good DJ is to ask around with the people you know. It might even be that you have been to a wedding where the DJ was excellent, in which case you can ask the couple whose wedding it was for the contact details of that DJ. That is a good way to do this, as you know that you are going to get someone trustworthy, and whom you know is good at what they do. So ask around, post something on your social media, and just generally put the feelers out to see if anyone out there might know of someone.
There are many kinds of DJ, from radio to nightclub, and you need to make sure that you are hiring the right kind for your event. Of course, this depends on what you want, and what kind of wedding you are hoping to have. But in the majority of cases you are not going to want a nightclub DJ operating at your wedding. Seek out those who specifically call themselves a wedding DJ, as those are going to be the best for your wedding. The last thing you want is to go out on a limb over someone who is unlikely to really provide you with the atmosphere you need – or worse, even put people off staying to dance the night away.
You should also make sure that you are consulting with the DJ before they agree to come to your wedding. There might be a whole range of things that you need them to know about, and it is important that they are able to be as prepared as possible for the event. If you need them to fit in with a particular style or theme, for instance, then it is only fair to inform them of that as early on as possible. Similarly, it might be that there are particular restrictions on sounds in the area, or that you need to help them set up in a part of the venue, and in any case they are going to have to have plenty of time to arrange all this as well as possible.
Now, it’s your wedding night, so you are bound to have at least one or two specific song requests. Most wedding DJs should be glad to have those, but you will need to make sure that you offer them in advance. Nobody is going to be particularly happy if you ask for your favourite song on the night and they don’t have it. Likewise, you will want to make sure that you are hiring a wedding DJ who does have a huge collection, so that they are much more likely to be able to respond to requests as you would want them to. If you can make use of both of these things, you are likely going to be a lot more satisfied with your choice of wedding DJ.
As long as you consider these things, you should end up with a wedding DJ that you love, and who serves your night well.
We are really pleased with the music and service at our Medic Spring Ball. Everyone loved the music choices! and there was great co-ordination with the jazz band that we also had at the event." - Bristol University Medical School Society
